Overnight in Siem Reap.
After a quick bike check, cross over the Tonle Sap River and cycle along the river banks past communities of the Cham ethnic-minority group to catch a ferry to Koh Dach, known as Silk Island.
You will arrive at a typical Khmer village with houses built high on stilts and workshops below. Meet the families who are still maintaining the old traditions of hand looming silk and dying it to bright hues. You’ll be amazed by the homemade spinning wheels made from old bicycle parts. Watch as the silk is transformed from a cotton wool-like texture into thread. If you like you can try your hand at weaving or purchase silk items direct from the family. Visit the local temple before hopping back on your bike and riding a short distance to a picnic spot for lunch. Then cycle back to Phnom Penh early afternoon.
A basic level of fitness is required, the total cycling distance is 25km over mostly flat ground.
Overnight in Phnom Penh.
Drive from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap around 5 hours.

Start your cycling adventure as your ride from town to the Angkor complex and the south gate of Angkor Thom. The Bayon is the centerpiece of this ancient city, with its 54 towers decorated with more than 200 smiling faces carved in stone. You’ll also visit the Royal Enclosure, Phimeanakas, the Terrace of Elephants, and the Terrace of Leper King, as well as the beloved tree entwined Ta Prohm temple. This afternoon explore the magnificent Angkor Wat, the largest and best preserved of all the temples before cycling to the Western Baray, a large reservoir.
Overnight in Siem Reap.
Your Community Village Tour begins after breakfast with a drive to the village about 40 kilometers outside Siem Reap. Along the way you will stop at the headquarters of a local non-profit organization that employs village women who specialize in the traditional craft of mat weaving (closed on Sundays and public holidays). The mats are then sold in the markets, providing an income for the women.
You’ll stop just outside the village and hop aboard an ox cart for a fun ride through the fields and to the home of a Khmer family who specializes in making brooms. Watch how they make brooms from natural materials, and if you like have a go! Then take a guided walking tour around the village where you have the opportunity to participate in fishing, farming or animal husbandry activities, depending on the time of year. Enjoy a simple Khmer lunch followed by more activities or just spend time chatting with the locals.
Tonight you will stay in the modest home of a Khmer family. You will be provided with a mattress, mosquito net, sheets, pillow and a towel. There are basic bathroom facilities with a bucket for bathing with fresh well water. Join the family for dinner and a chat over a game of cards.
Today after breakfast, choose from a range of activities, you might like take a walk or short cycle around the surrounding area, help in the fields or prepare lunch. Head back to Siem Reap just after lunch, stopping at a Buddhist temple to receive a blessing from the monks.
Leave temple town behind as you get off the tourist path and drive about three hours to the sleepy town of Battambang with its crumbling French colonial architecture, fertile soil and rubies. Along the way take detour to the temple of Banteay Chhmar. This massive temple dates back to the late 12th century and an inscription found on the wall detailing how four servants saved their king, is displayed in the national museum. Due to its remote location, the temple has been heavily looted by both Khmer and neighbouring Thailand. A restoration project is now underway to save what remains.
Overnight in Battambang.
Drive about 45 minutes out of town to explore rural Battambang and the temple of Ek Phnom, built in the 11th century under the rule of Suryavarman I. Although the temple is in poor condition compared to those in neighbouring Angkor, there are still some very beautiful Hindu carvings to be seen. Stretch your legs with a walk to the top of Phnom Sampeou and hear the tales of myth and legend while you admire the spectacular view. The mountain also contains a series of caves which were used by the Khmer Rouge as ‘killing caves’ during the war years. On the way back into town see take a quick look at one of the last remaining wooden houses built by the French during colonial times. In the afternoon join in the fun with a visit to the local circus, Phare Ponleu Selpak. This small NGO supports the community by offering children from disadvantaged families the opportunity to learn music, drama and dance.
